Ms. Emma Glenn passed away on Saturday. She was was a beloved matriarch of her family; the mother of 13 children, 102 grandchildren, 106 great grandchildren, 109 great-great grandchildren and 7 great, great great
grandchildren.
She was born in Dixie County in 1908 and she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Pickens Temple United Methodist Church.
She had many jobs over her long lifetime. She worked at the Suwannee Gables Motel, cleaned houses, baby sat and did farm work.
The Advocate interviewed Ms. Glenn back in September of 2007. She said she loved Dixie County because "of the small community and everyone where I lived at in Old Town seemed like family."
Services will be held at DCHS on June 28.
Collette Hill Davidson, 81, of Gainesville and Horseshoe Beach
passed away on June 18th, 2008 at her home in Gainesville with friends
and family. Her mother was the late Rebecca Frank of Gainesville. Ms.
Davidson grew up in Knoxville, TN and began her long and distinguished
nursing career after graduating from Fort Sanders Hospital School of
Nursing in 1950. She went on to earn her Associate Degree at Lake City
Junior College; her Baccalaureate and Masters Degrees at the University
of Florida; and, completed additional graduate work at the University
of Connecticut.
MR. STANLEY REED HORSLEY of Old Town passed away Sunday, June 15,
2008 at Shands at AGH. He was 55. Born in Tampa, Florida, he moved to
Old Town in 1987 where he owned and operated Linda's Aquatic Plants
with his wife. His hobby was fishing.
John David Clark, age 45, passed away at his home in Chiefland,
Florida on June 14, 2008.  He moved here from Cedar Falls, Iowa in
1993.  He was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed woodworking as a hobby.
He was also a pastor of the Agape Christian Church of Old Town, FL for
three and a half years.
MRS. IRENE SNELLGROVE of Cross City passed away Friday, May 30, 2008
at Shands of UF. She was 69. Mrs. Snellgrove was born in Cross City
January 6, 1939 to William and Willie Mae Parker Albritton. She was a
homemaker and a mother.
Harold Eugene Fraker age 76 passed away on June 3, 2008 in Old Town, Fl.
He was born in Columbus, Ohio on September 14, 1931 to Andrew and
Ethel Fraker. He moved to Old Town, Fl 30 years ago from Oak Hill,
Ohio. He was of the Baptist faith. He was the president of Suwannee
Forest Park Hill Community Center for many years. He loved fishing,
yard sales, loved people and never met a stranger, he also loved going
to Wal-Mart.
Roy D Meacham of Knoxville, TN died peacefully in his sleep on une
4, 2008. He was 86 years old.  Roy was born in Detroit, Michigan to
William and Florence Duffield.  He was a loyal member of the Masons
and Shriners in Florida where he made his home before his battle with
Alzheimer's Disease.

DELMA McCALL STEWART of Steinhatchee passed away Friday, May 30, 2008
in Orlando, Florida. Mrs. Stewart was born on December 31, 1916 to
Calvin and Lella McCall in Taylor County, Florida. She was a member of
the First Baptist Church of Steinhatchee.
MISS JUDY MARIE ARNOLD of Old Town passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008. She was 56 years old.
Miss Arnold was born in Douglas, Michigan. She raised her children
in Ormond Beach. She retired in Old Town in 2000. She loved her career
as a computer programmer/analyst.
MRS. MONA FAYE VanAERNAM, affectionately known to her family and friends as Woody, of Cross City passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008 at her home after a long illness. She was 67 years of age. Mrs. VanAernam was a lifelong resident of Dixie County. She was a homemaker who spent her life loving and caring for her children and grandchildren.

MICHAEL A. FOLAND of Lansing Michigan passed away Thursday, May 22,
2008 at Mortan Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida after a short
battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He was 48 years old. Michael was a
retiree of Lansing Fisher Body, B. O. C.
Wayne Willis. 55 of Chiefland passed away May 19 at Haven Hospice in
Chiefland. Born in Tampa, FL he moved to Chiefland when he was 2 years
old. He was the plant manager for Bell Concrete of Chiefland. He was a
member of the Fowlers Bluff Baptist Church.
MISS KEIRSTEN LEIGH DAVIS of Old Town passed away Saturday, May 17, 2008 after a tragic drowning accident. She was 3 years old.
She is survived by her father; Jamie L. Davis of Old Town, mother; Frances J. Davis of Old Town, brothers; Dustin Stiltner of Bristol, TN, Taylor Davis of Old Town and Mickiah Davis of Old Town, and Paternal great grandparents; Jerry and Kay Davis of Old Town.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel, Cross City, Florida with Rev. Tom Shoff officiating. Burial will follow at Cross City Cemetery, Cross City, Florida. A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at the funeral home between the hours of 5 and 7 PM.

MR. JAMES WAYNE "BOBBY" POPE of Old Town passed away at his home
Tuesday, May 6, 2008 after a lengthy illness. He was 61. Mr. Pope moved
to Old Town in October of 2007 from Bradenton. Mr. Pope was a heavy
equipment operator in the construction business. He was a Baptist.
MR. KEVIN ROSS FOLSOM, SR., age 57, passed away Saturday, May 3,
2008 at his home in Old Town, FL. Mr. Folsom graduated from Lafayette
High School in Mayo, FL in 1967 and entered the United States Air
Force, where he served until 1973. He was a lifetime resident of the
Lafayette, Taylor and Dixie County areas. He was a commercial fisherman
and was a former member of the Horseshoe Beach Fire Department.
MRS. MARY BETTY SMITH, 88, of Old Town passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the Haven Hospice in Chiefland. She
was born in Monroe, LA and was an active member of the community. Being
an avid reader and painter, she was a member of Friends of the Library
in Dixie County and was instrumental in setting up the branch library
in Cross City. She was also a very active member of the Old Town United
Methodist Church.
Charlotte Fay Barber passed
away on May 4, 2008 at Haven Hospice of the Tri-Counties.  She was 86
years old.  Charlotte was born in Wauchula, FL, on March 30, 1922 to
Harney and Adele Hancock.  She moved to Old town in 1962. She was a
member of the United Methodist Church of Old Town.
Junior Allen Bowman passed away on Monday, April 28, 2008 at North
FLorida Regional Medical Center.  He was 56 years old. Junior was born
on December 29, 1951 in West Virginia to Bed & Della Bowman.  He
moved to Old Town 25 years ago from west Virginia.  Junior was of the
Baptist Faith.
Mr. Harvey Lee "Buddy" Smith,
Jr., age 77, of Suwanee Florida, passed away on Thursday, May 01, 2008,
at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville Florida. Mr. Smith, a native of
Coffee County, Georgia was born October 12, 1930; He is the son of
Adeline Tanner Smith Meeks & the late Harvey Lee Smith, Sr. He was
a Veteran of the US Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict
& a commercial fisherman. He was of Baptist Faith.
MRS. MELBA LEE UNDERHILL of Cross City passed away at North Florida Regional Medical Center Wednesday, April 23, 2008 after a long illness. She was 85 years of age, born September 11, 1922 in Taylor County, Florida. She moved to Dixie county with her parents where she was raised. Melba served as the Dixie County Supervisor of Elections from January 1961 until she retired in 1981. She was a member of the Baptist Purity Church.
MR. JOUQUIM GOMES, JR. of Horseshoe Beach, FL passed away on April
21, 2008 at the Gainesville VA. He was 75. Born in Key West, FL, Mr.
Gomes lived in Horseshsoe for the past 35 years where he was a
commercial fisherman. He was a member of the New Beginnings Church in
Horseshoe.
HENRY ALLEN, 64, went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2008 at
Tuscany House in Summerfield, FL, after a year-long battle with cancer.
A Florida native, he was born in Cross City, FL on January 16, 1944 and
raised in Ocala.  
James M. "Jim" Mullins, 65, of Palatka, died Friday, April 11, 2008
at the Malcolm Randall V.A. Medical Center in Gainesville following an
extended illness. A native of Whitewood, Virginia, he resided in
Palatka for 37 years coming from Whitewood.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran
of Vietnam.
DOZIER LEE KEEN, 78, of Cross City passed away Friday, April 11, 2008 at his home. He was a lifetime resident of Dixie County; a mechanic and a tow truck driver. He is survived by three sons; Gaston Keen and Larry Keen o Cross City, David Keen of Branford; four daughters: Terry Kight of Horseshoe Beach, Deloris Miller of Panama City, Carol Long of Old Town and Tracey Owen of Branford.
MRS. DORA ELIZABETH VALENTINE of Horseshoe Beach passed away
Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at her home. She was 89 years old. Mrs.
Valentine was a lifelong resident of Dixie County. She was a homemaker
and mother and a retired nutritionist for the Alachua County School
System. She was Southern Baptist. Mrs.
Valentine is survived by children, Steven Valentine, Frayne "Smokey"
Valentine and Evonne Cline all of Horseshoe Beach; brother, Blaine
Butler of Jacksonville; and 8 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19 at 10:00 am at the pavillion at the Butler Cemetery. Arrangements have been placed under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, Florida 352-498-5400.
BARBARA JEANNE OSTEEN, age 46, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008 at
Haven Hospice in Chiefland, Florida. She was born in Fredericktown, MO,
on August 9, 1961 and moved to the Dixie County area from the Tampa
area in 1993.
Ruby E. Reed, a homemaker, age 70, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2008 at her residence. She was born in Forsyth, Georgia and had lived in Perry for 15 years.
MR. FRANCIS WALTER BURY, SR. of Old Town passed away Friday, March
28, 2008 at his home. He was 70. Mr. Bury moved to Old Town 16 years
ago from Glenville, PA. He was an automobile mechanic and a Catholic.
MRS. HAZEL LEE JONES of Old Town passed away Wednesday, March 26,
2008 at the Tri-County Nursing Home. She was 89. Mrs. Jones was a
homemaker and a mother.
Anna Marie Dvorak (formerly Anna D. Thompson) age 60 of Cross
City/Lake City, Florida, joined our Lord March 27, 2008 after a
lengthily illness. Anna was a retired Registered Nurse and leaves
behind three children, CharLee Lanier of Panama City, Lori (Greg)
McDonald of Lake City, Scott Thompson of Panama City,
MRS VIRGINIA ANNE ENGERS of Cross City passed away Sunday, March 23, 2008 after a long illness. She was 67. Mrs. Engers taught math with the Dixie County School system for 27 years. She then became Vocational Director and later became Director of Human Resources for the School System. She retired in 2007 after 36 years of service.
